Happy Monday, Honey!
I hope you’ve all had a killer 2020 so far. Between Kobe dying, Coronavirus, and the world’s lame ass Tik Tok obsession, I can’t say mine has been off to the best start! Lol, for real though, my year has been pretty dope. We’re only 2 months deep and I’ve already vacationed in both Miami and New York City. I’ve dropped 3 Local Honey collections already and the next two are on their way. It’s safe to say I’ve been hustling hard and treating myself accordingly.
I gotta share the highlights of my New York trip with you all. I have always dreamt of living in the city but until a couple weeks ago, I had never even visited. My good friend Alyssa moved there in the fall and soon as she did, I knew I would be making my way there ASAP.
I didn’t have many of the basic tourist spots on my agenda, mostly just a lot of shopping and eating out. Fashion is my whole life, so you can imagine how I would thrive there. One of my favorite areas was SoHo, where I saw so many dope stores. We started our day at this place called Coffee N Clothes which made designer logo stamped lattes and had a crazy exhibit of small businesses selling their products. You literally had to go down a slide to enter the exhibit! That was a very random and satisfying first stop on our trip.
From there, we made our way to every high-end streetwear brand I could’ve dreamt of. A three story Kith store, Stock X in person, Off-White, Supreme, Opening Ceremony, Reformation, the list goes on. To say I was impressed and inspired is an understatement. From there, we ate at a restaurant I had wanted to try for so long called the Butcher’s Daughter. We got a flight of green juice mimosas! Incredible.
Some other noteworthy stops from my trip were the Broadway play we saw called Grand Horizons (a great comedy), luxury shopping on 5th Avenue (I bought a Gucci belt and Dior ring, oops), lunch at The Plaza Hotel (shoutout Eloise), bagels in Brooklyn (duh), a stroll past the Brooklyn Bridge, sitting on the steps of The Met, and generally just taking cool subway rides to various cool parts of Manhattan. I swear I could roam the city aimlessly forever and never get bored. Another highlight of my trip had to be going clubbing. I met so many people who I’ve stayed in touch with just in the two nights we went out. People are so much more forward and fun there than anywhere else I’ve experienced. No matter where we were or what we were doing, I truly felt like I fit in perfectly for the first time in my life.
Well, that’s all I’ll recap for now. I promise I’ll be going back ASAP and maybe next time I’ll vlog the trip? Let me know if you’d tune in.
As for my day to day, I’ve been pretty solid. I tried my first kickboxing class and that was dope. I made homemade banana bread without a recipe and I’m embarrassingly proud of how well it turned out. The weather is starting to warm up here in Denver which makes my whole soul happy! I have been busting my ass on Local Honey to be honest with ya’ll. I even hired a social media assistant and she’s already brought so much to the table, I’m really excited to see where that takes us. I promised you consistent new inventory all year and I will not let you down.
I love all of you honeys dearly and I hope life is treating you right <3 ‘Til next post!
Happy Monday, honeys!
I hope everyone is surviving the winter! This time of year always kills me but I’ve kept it together pretty damn well considering this is my first real winter in 4 years. I am so excited for 2020!!! It’s so cleche to say that I have a good feeling about this year but it’s true. I knew 2019 would be a year of transition for me and it definitely was, but now that I’ve built a solid foundation and settled into my new home I’m ready to thrive at the things that fuel me most.
Speaking of what fuels me most, let’s talk about what’s been going on with Local Honey! I have not dropped a collection since July and that breaks my heart. I’ve had to take some time to prepare to make future drops better than anything you’ve seen before and tbh, I think I’m killing it. I am so pleased with how the photoshoot turned out and I think the clothes are really dope. I’m staying more true to my personal style moving forward, I hope you honeys are cool with that.
I named this next collection the Foundation collection because it is a compilation of what I consider wardrobe essentials. The items are very basic with a focus on silhouette and wearability. Each piece can be worn and styled a ton of different ways and worn throughout many seasons. This collection of 16 pieces will be available this Thursday, 1/16.
Don’t trip though, shortly after this drop I will be releasing my first ever, personally designed clothing. The drop will consist of 3 different designs, each printed on two different garment types. I learned so much through that process and I truly can’t wait to see how I elevate my designs in the future.
Annnnnd after my designs are released, the second collection of 2020 will drop which is filled with more fun pieces that spice up the basics you already stocked up on. They are great transition pieces from winter to spring and I swear you’re gonna want your hands on everything.
I currently do not have a pop-up lined up but I’m always working on it! Maybe I’ll go back to Florida next? Stay tuned for updates 🙂
NOW LET’S GET PERSONAL. Honestly, I don’t have anything monumental to share with you all. I didn’t go into depth with setting new year’s goals or anything but I do know that I’m very serious about Local Honey. I feel so passionate about this brand and absolutely nothing compares to how I feel when I’m making progress. I would love to see some major growth in 2020 and I promise I’m doing everything I can to make that happen. Denver is still chill, I’ve been fairly consistent with my fitness and nutrition routines, I’m not focused on much socially and I think that’s great. Taking adequate time for myself and prioritizing things other than my social life is a hard adjustment for me but I can see it paying off. Overall, the future is looking bright baby.
Thanks for joining me on the ride, honey <3
Hello my honeys! I have missed you all dearly. Although it’s been a while since I’ve written a post, I have been uploading to my Youtube channel pretty regularly and I also had my first Denver pop up shop! I promise I am always working on this brand in some form… Even if it’s just racking my brain with too many ideas to handle.
I wasn’t sure whether to make this concept into a video or a blog post. After assessing my smudged makeup and greasy topknot, I decided blog post it was! I will be sharing all of my current favs from makeup to fashion to food. This is your ultimate guide to the best of the best this season.
Okay, so this is nothing new in my routine, but I wanted to emphasize my love for the Maybelline Superstay foundation. I have bought countless bottles of this stuff, using a few lighter coverage options on my off days but mostly sticking to this. I had been using it for so long that I wanted to try something new and picked up a Benefit cosmetics foundation for triple the price. A week later I returned the benefit one and stuck with my OG, being reminded just how good it is. The staying power is unmatched, the coverage is amazing, and it doesn’t break me out. Love.
THESE BOOTS. Omg, they’re from Nasty Gal as you can see and I copped them for $40 since they always run sales. I have worn these nearly everyday since I got them and I love the edge they add to every outfit. They have quickly become a staple and I definitely recommend them if you’re on the hunt for a go-to black boot.
Gold jewelry is a constant for me, but gold chain necklaces have been everything lately. They look so cool but it’s still classic. I think they bring out my inner hoodrat and honestly I couldn’t be more pleased, lmao.
My last fashion fav is leather pants. I have two different pairs, one is a shiny, textured leather from XLE.com and one is a classic smooth leather from Zara. Both are a straight leg fit which makes them super on trend. I find that they pair with so much and can turn a basic outfit into a bad bitch outfit. Big fan.
You guys!!! I have found my new favorite recipe of all time. I take about a 6 inch piece of sourdough baguette and cut it in half the long way, spread Brie cheese over one side and Trader Joe’s vegan kale cashew pesto over the other side. Toast that in oven for about 8 minutes and cook up some seasoned chicken breast (fake chicken for me). Take the bread out and add the chicken slices, a few tomato slices, and a tiny bit of mayo for the most delicious sandwich you’ll ever eat. Thank me later.
Ugh, I don’t even want to talk about Playboi Carti. He did us dirty by not dropping his new album Whole Lotta Red on time so in the mean time, I’ve recently discovered a rapper that goes by Father and I really like his music. Ive had my favorite songs by him on repeat for the last couple months along with my typical lineup of Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Smino (highly recommend if you don’t already listen to him), A$AP Mob, and some BROCKHAMPTON here and there as well. Music isn’t super interesting at the moment but I do have to say that hip hop has been a huge crutch for me during this big transition.
Lastly, I just wanna catch up with you guys. My job as a Visual Manager at H&M is going well, I really enjoy merchandising and I feel very much like I’m on the right path for my future. The Denver pop-up was amazing! Everyone was very interactive and I got a ton of support. I know I had mentioned the fashion rut I was going through in my last post but I am here to say that much has changed! I have felt more inspired and fearless with my fashion than ever before. I’m going to Florida this weekend to visit my friends which I could not be more excited about. I have so much love for those people and I’m missing those connections dearly, Don’t worry, I will be vlogging that entire trip and I promise it’ll be an entertaining one.
Until next time, I love you honeys so much!
Happy Thursday, Honeys!
In case you didn’t hear, I moved to Denver, CO this week! I came from South Florida and took the 28 hour road trip solo. It was a really fun journey and I’ve had such a nice week exploring and adjusting to my new life.
Some of my favorite things I’ve done so far are hike Red Rocks Amphitheater (I spent a whole afternoon there writing and relaxing), explore a new part of downtown as well as a new local coffee shop, set up my room (it looks perfect, room tour coming soon!!), and overall I’ve just gotten into some really healthy habits already. I’ve worked out everyday this week which is huge for me!! It feels amazing and I am so enthusiastic to keep the momentum going and just keep thriving in my new city! ALONE TIME IS TIGHT YO.
I recently dropped a gorgeous Local Honey collection and if you haven’t shopped it yet, I strongly urge you to. The pieces are so unique and fashionable, you really shouldn’t miss out. Fashion has been kinda blah for me recently. I can feel my style changing so I’ve been sort of frustrated with my wardrobe to be honest. At the moment I am really into classic pieces such as button ups and relaxed denim. An ideal outfit would either be a very plain tee with an edgy pant or a more structured top that features some subtle detail/bold color paired with denim. (I still accessorize the shit out of everything hehe.) I feel as though I want to either look very chic and subtle yet fashionable OR I want to be wearing really bold, out-there streetwear. I’m just not into regular “trendy” fashion at all right now.
I’m going to Minnesota in a week to visit my family for a lil’ lake weekend. That will be so nice and I think it’ll be the perfect way to break up my new adjustment. A week after that, it’s my mf birthday! I’m a Leo, so naturally I love my birthday. I have a few different friends coming to town and some fun festivities planned. Let me know if you’d like to see a vlog of that weekend!
I start my new job as a Visual Manager of H&M tomorrow. I’m a bit nervous because you never really know how you’re gonna fit with a new company but I am super excited to be working pretty much strictly on visuals. I have learned so much about visual merchandising in the past year and I’m quite passionate about it. I’m just excited to get back to being hands on with fashion & business!
Lastly, check out my new YouTube video! It’s a healthy grocery haul where I also share some of my favorite recipes. Food is so important to me and I’d love to influence you to start getting more nutrients in your life. <3 healthy + affordable grocery haul w/ recipes
Talk to you all soon!! I love you honeys!
Happy Wednesday, Honeys!
Um, yeah, it’s been a minute. Excuses are so annoying so let’s just skip that part of this post! In my absence, I have been working a ton on behind-the-scenes Local Honey moves and even more on my personal health. My mental and physical health are my top priorities right now which brings you this post!
I would like to start off by sharing a few of the daily healthy habits that have started to become a staple part of my routine. These little regimens add up so much in making me feel good and strong all day long.
- A tiny 5-10 minute workout every morning. I wish I enjoyed working out more, but in all my attempts I just have never found joy and relief in exercise like I do in nutrition. In the last six months or so I have begun a habit of doing 15-25 pushups every morning, along with 2 minutes of planks dispersed, and some other simple ab/leg/or cardio exercise with about 20-30 reps. I know this is hardly even a warmup to many people- but this is the simplest, least time consuming, and cheapest way for me to do at least a bit of strengthening. The simplicity of it makes it hard to find an excuse not to do it and you’d be surprised the difference it has made in my body over time!
- Wake up earlier and leave yourself more time in the morning. This is beneficial to your life in so many ways. This tip allows me to do my little workout and it also forces me to have coffee/breakfast at home. That alone saves me SO MUCH money and so many calories!!! My Dunkin/Starbucks habits were completely out of hand and starting these better morning habits has made all the difference. Another surprising perk is that the extra time allows me to drink way more water. I’m so thirsty in the morning and when I’m rushing around I just don’t make drinking water a priority like I should.
Now onto my favorite part of this post- my favorite kale recipes as of recently!
Kale has so many benefits. A serving (2 1/2 cups!!) only contains 45 calories. A serving also contains so many benefits such as potassium, fiber, protein, iron and 260% of your daily Vitamin A, 170% Vitamin C, and 870% Vitamin K! That’s why they call it a superfood.
- Kale Energy Smoothie
- You need: 1 frozen banana, 1 cup frozen kale, 1 tbsp. all natural peanut butter, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and 1 cup of cold brew coffee. 1/4 cup of nut/oat milk or protein powder are optional.
- Blend ingredients together.
- Kale & ‘Sausage’ Breakfast Scramble
- You need: 1 or 2 eggs depending on preference, 1/2 cup of kale, 1/2 cup of veggies of your choice (peppers/onions/corn/mushrooms), garlic, 2 baby potatoes, 1 sausage (mine are vegan apple sausage) link, and a handful of dairy free cheese
- Sautee veggies & garlic on a pan with chopped up sausage link, add egg(s) once veggies are halfway cooked through, add kale once the egg is halfway done & the veggies are almost fully cooked, once the kale has slightly wilted- top with cheese and some hot sauce and enjoy!
- Veggie Tacos
- You need: 1/2 bell pepper, 1/4 red onion, 1/2 cup of corn or black beans, tofu, taco seasoning, kale, avocado, salsa, cheese (dairy free for me).
- Sautee veggies while you bake the tofu at 425 for about 12 minutes. Season both with taco seasoning before you start cooking. Once tofu is baked, crumble it into tiny pieces so that it almost resembles a ground beef texture. Add tofu to the veggies and let it all simmer for 3-4 minutes. Either eat as a salad on a bed of kale and top with all the toppings of your choice or enjoy inside a warm tortilla with kale, avocado, cheese, and salsa!
I hope you enjoyed this health-focused post and that you’re all having a very healthy and happy 2019 so far! Expect a new fashion post verrrrry soon, honeys <3
Happy Tuesday, Honeys!
I’m super excited about this post because I just got back from an amazing little vacation to Denver, Colorado. It was my second time going there and I just absolutely love the laid back atmosphere and beautiful scenery. The first trip I took was mostly dedicated to exploring the mountains and taking in a whole new view with my best friends, while this time was spent with family and dedicated to checking out the city. I am such a sucker for big cities, a weekend getaway full of local grub and vintage shopping is basically my dream. In this post I’ll give you an in-depth look on what I wore, what I did, and of course, what I bought while in Denver.
WHAT I WORE
I stuck with a general theme of effortlessly put together, featuring hues of light denim, pink, and neutrals. I had a lot of fun playing with color and texture and overall I was pleased with my ‘fits.
In this comfy outfit I knew I wanted to highlight the pink, popcorn textured cardigan that I recently picked up from Target…Yes, TARGET. I love it so much, the color is just perfect and you all know how I feel about cardigans. I kept that the focal point by pairing it with a white crop top and some light wash mom jeans, both Brandy Melville.
I really wish I had gotten a whole outfit pic, but this is what I wore to a concert on Friday night. It was freezing up in Red Rocks Amphitheater so I decided to wear my roommate’s thrifted black turtleneck under a super soft teddy coat and I dressed it up with this dope Forever 21 stacked necklace. I wore some mom jeans on bottom and black booties to keep warm.
This has to be my fav fit. Neon is a huge trend this fall so I decided to experiment with that by rocking a hot pink sweater from H&M under this perfect fall blazer I picked up from work (Dress Barn). The sweater was originally quite a bit longer but I cut it into this cropped length to make me look taller and just fit my style more. I also wore this outfit with some distressed boyfriend jeans and black booties.
This was my comfy airport outfit. I would’ve loved to be wearing leggings, but I needed more space in my bag and had to wear my bulkiest jeans…Lol so I paired them with this thrifted Harley Davidson tee and the same fuzzy jacket as before. Air Force Ones and gold jewelry make the outfit look a lot more together than the effort it required.
WHAT I DID
The reason I actually made a trip to Denver in the first place was for a Blackbear concert in Red Rocks Ampitheatre. After spending Friday having nice coffee chats with my dad, exploring downtown Denver, and of course, hitting the local dispensary, I enjoyed the beautiful concert by myself. It was such a lively show and an experience I have dreamed of for so long. I did go alone but I danced my heart out and ended up meeting some really cool local gals. The next day was mostly dedicated to vintage shopping and more city exploring while just unwinding from the chaos of everyday. It was much needed and much appreciated I must say. If you’re in Denver you just have to experience the amazing local coffee shops and Mexican restaurants. They are definitely worth the hype.
WHAT I BOUGHT
The first store I bought something at was the Forever 21 in downtown Denver where I picked up that taupe sweater dress (bottom left) along with the gold stacked necklace (top right) and the gold coin necklace that I paired with the dress.
The other store I shopped at was Buffalo Exchange where I picked up that sweet Jimi Hendrix shirt, the snakeskin loafers, perfect pink sunglasses, and the plaid trousers. Overall I think each piece is super unique and something I’ve been searching for for a while now.
And that’s a wrap, honey! I really hope you all enjoyed getting a closer look at my recent weekend get away. I would totally recommend Denver for an escape from the chaos of our everyday lives. ‘Til next time! <3
Happy Friday, Honeys!
Man does it feel good to finally type that again. I am so so sorry for my lapse in posts this past month. I’ve decided to stop my Monday posting schedule and just start making blog posts when I feel inspired to share something with you all. I decided to make this change because I never want to be in a position where I feel obligated to post something just because I feel like I need to. This is meant to be a platform where I can share my lifestyle authentically and passionately, and I feel that I can do that better with a bit more freedom. I’ve never been great at following guidelines after all… 😉
In light of that, I haven’t been TOTALLY absent! In fact, I posted an entire new collection, cozy szn, to the shop tab of this site and you all seem to be loving it! I even had to restock one of the sweaters by popular demand. I’m really proud of this collection and the direction my shop is headed and I hope you guys feel the same way. Oh and don’t worry, there’s already new arrivals on their way. <3
Not only have I been focusing more on inventory, but I’ve also been creating Youtube videos! I have two on my channel currently and one ready to post. I’ve had a video ready for quite some time but due to technical difficulties, I have not been able to share it. 🙁 I am working on getting that resolved so that hopefully you can all enjoy it soon. It features my ex boyfriend and I promise, it’s really entertaining.
On top of all that, ya girl is hosting her very first event at the end of this month! I will be throwing an event in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month that includes my first pop-up shop, a clothing swap, a DVA presentation, and a raffle. I will bring my inventory to the event so that guests can shop in person and 20% of the money I make will be donated to a local women’s shelter. The clothing swap will consist of guests bringing in 10-15 gently used clothing pieces and then swapping them with other girls’ items. The clothes that are left at the end will also be donated to the shelter. Lastly, I will be sharing a presentation alongside one of my good friends that is themed around DVA and women empowerment. There will also be a raffle going throughout the night where guests can make donations in order to be entered to win a Local Honey & Nature of the Soul Co sponsored gift basket. I am extremely passionate about lowering the number of people who are affected by domestic violence and I feel very blessed to have an outlet like Local Honey where I can make a difference.
Talk to you soon, honeys <3
